Vending Machine Services - How It Really Operates

So how does a vending machine service really operate? A vending operator (or sometimes called a vending service provider) will provide machines to different companies in their community.

These companies can include schools, offices, factories, hotels, car washes, auto mechanic shops, community centers skating rinks and many others as well. In the community these companies have employees that work at their facility. These employees require refreshments.

Vending companies will provide different types of machines which include soda, snack, coffee and food vending machines. Depending on a number of factors these companies will decide which type of machine is best suited for each location.

Some factors that they consider are the amount of employees that work at the facility. A company that has 100+ employees may require soda and snack vending services where as a company that only has 30 employees may only require a soda machine.

Companies looking to obtain this service should be prepared to answer a few questions.

1. How many employees work at your company?

2. What are your hours of operation?

3. How many days per week are you open?

4. Who else will be using the machines? Walk-thru traffic?

These are some of the basic questions that are usually asked to see if the location has potential for some good sales - also to determine how many machines may be required for the facility.

The companies that require the vending service may have a few questions of their own as well, so the operator should be prepared to provide some answers.

Some questions may be:

How often does your company restock the machines?

Who is responsible for any repairs or maintenance?

Is there a rental fee or charge for having the machines on our premises?

Do we receive a percentage of the sales?

So as the operator it is always good to be prepared to answer some questions like this. In most cases the vending company provides their machines for free. A good company should essentially be restocking the machines on a regular weekly basis and provide all maintenance and repairs of the equipment.

As for commissions it is really up to the operator of the vending machines to determine what is an appropriate amount if any paid to the company. As a rule! There has to be some adequate sales volume running through the location to make it viable for both parties.

These are just some of the basics and serves as some helpful information for both vending operators as well as companies looking to obtain vending services.
